Jodie Moule trained as a psychologist. Then she started designing and building the things she had been studying. She is co-founder and Research Director of Behavjōr, a behaviour-led design and research consultancy in Sydney, where she leads behavioural research across enterprise, government and education.
She came to design sideways. A Masters of Applied Psychology at the University of Newcastle, then mental health and organisational psychology, then a job at ePredix where she watched badly designed screens quietly distort psychometric results. That was where it all started. She led government and commercial usability work at PTG Global, and in 2003 co-founded Symplicit, running it as CEO for twelve years and growing it into one of the best known human-centred design consultancies in Australia.
It sold to DWS Group in 2015. She stayed on as a group Executive Director and sat on the board of the ASX-listed parent.
In 2012 she wrote Killer UX Design for SitePoint. The case study in the book became Cook, an iPad app she co-founded and led as product owner. Apple named it Best of 2013 and an Editors’ Choice.
She has since served as a non-executive director at Tactiv, at CourseLoop through its 2024 acquisition by TechnologyOne, and at Ctrl+Shft. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Twenty five years in and her motivations are still all about getting to ‘why’. Why do people do what they do, and what would actually make the things we design for them better.
